HKU Men's Badminton Team Remains Undefeated, Winning 4th Consecutive USFHK Championships
The HKU Men's Badminton Team once again proved their dominance in the local university sports scene by clinching their fourth consecutive USFHK Championships title. The final, held at The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong on 17 March 2024, saw an exhilarating rematch of last year's final, with HKU emerging victorious with a commanding 3:0 win against their fierce rival Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
The final showcased the exceptional skills and determination of the team. In the 1st singles match, Captain Edwin Lai displayed his agility and focus on the court to secure an easy win. The next singles match witnessed a breathtaking comeback by the 2023 USFHK MVP, Joshua Wang, who displayed remarkable resilience to seal the victory. Ko Shing Kei and Chung Pok Hong, the HKU Sports Scholar duo then demonstrated their immense teamwork and talent, winning in a nail-bitingly doubles match to bag the trophy for HKU.
The team's outstanding performance can be attributed to their rigorous training regimen. The team attended two intensive training camps in mainland China during the season, which undoubtedly contributed to their stellar performance. Team Coach Fanny Wong and Kenneth Fung have played a pivotal role in guiding and shaping the team's success, investing a tremendous amount of effort and dedication into their training and development.
This victory also marked a bittersweet farewell to Ko Shing Hei, who will be graduating this summer. As a World University Games Medalist, Ko Shing Hei's contribution and commitment to the team have been invaluable, and he will be greatly missed.
Our Team Patron Professor Anna Wong, expressed her utmost delight and pride in the team's remarkable achievement. She credited their hard work and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, and emphasized the importance of maintaining the level of discipline in the future.
The HKU Men's Badminton Team's undefeated streak and consecutive victories in the USFHK Championships have set a new benchmark for collegiate badminton excellence in Hong Kong and a source of pride for the entire HKU community.
