The University of Hong Kong (HKU) Athletic Team delivered a landmark performance at the 64th USFHK Annual Athletic Meet, reclaiming the Overall Championship title for the first time in over a decade. Competing across two days of high‑intensity track and field events, HKU topped the overall standings with 280 points, finishing ahead of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (271 points) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (213 points).
In the divisional standings, HKU secured 1st place in the Men’s Team and 2nd place in the Women’s Team, marking one of the University’s strongest overall performances in recent USFHK athletics history.
A Result of Sustained Rebuilding and Team‑Centred Excellence
This achievement reflects several years of steady rebuilding by HKU’s student‑athletes, coaches, and the Centre for Sports and Exercise (CSE).
Across the meet, HKU athletes demonstrated depth, consistency, and composure in both track and field events. Crucially, strong performances across relays and technical disciplines ensured a steady accumulation of points throughout the programme, underlining the importance of team contribution over individual success.

Leadership, Culture, and Collective Belief
In the post‑competition debrief, Team Captains Chole Pak, Serene Kwok, Rina Lin Mingfu, and Magnus Johannsson highlighted the importance of teamwork and a shared commitment to collective success. They emphasized that prioritizing team goals over individual accolades was a defining factor behind HKU’s breakthrough season.
Reflecting that same spirit, past and present team leaders and athletes reinforced how hard work, sacrifice, and close support from coaches and the wider HKU community made the championship possible. CHAN Tsz Ho Nino Adam, Team Captain of 2024-25 — recalled the program’s rise from early setbacks to this season’s overall title and expressed pride in the athletes and coaches despite narrowly missing a grand slam. CHEUNG Siu Hang, Team Captain of 2023-24 captured the team ethos concisely: “The HKU Athletics Team is not just a team—we are a family that pushes each other to be better. Behind every finish line crossed, there are countless hours of hard training and sweat. This Overall Championship belongs to every single one of us!” Current captains echoed that gratitude: LIN Mingfu thanked every HKU athlete for their sacrifices and dedication, saying their efforts made the success possible and filled him with pride; and PAK Hoi Man Chloe credited the coaches’ guidance and the relentless commitment of every athlete for securing the team overall championship, adding that the squad is proud and already motivated to push for more next year.
The captains also acknowledged the continued support of coaches, teammates, alumni, past team captains, and CSE Management, whose sustained guidance and belief played a vital role in the team’s development.
Looking Ahead
CSE remains committed to creating an environment where HKU students can pursue sporting excellence while thriving academically. The results at the 64th USFHK Annual Athletic Meet stand as a compelling example of what this partnership can achieve.
The momentum continues into the coming weekend, with HKU’s Men’s Basketball, Women’s Handball, and Karatedo Teams competing in their respective USFHK fixtures. We encourage HKU staff, students, and alumni to come out in support, cheer from the stands, and continue building the strong sporting culture across the University.
Let’s keep the spirit of this Overall Championship alive—together.
